Your level of English language ability plays an important role in finding meaningful employment in NZ. In order to be highly employable you need to have a high level of written and verbal English skills. Our ‘English for Careers & Employment’ Course can help you achieve your career goals. This course is for new and settled migrants with an intermediate level of English skills. You will learn: - how to improve your English speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and listening skills; about NZ culture and society; basic computer skills in MS Word, Outlook Express, and the Internet; how to plan and research future career options; job searching and career planning skills to achieve your employment goals; and how to communicate in the NZ workplace. The benefits of doing this course are many. Your English skills will be significantly improved. As a result, your employability will be enhanced. You will finish the course with a clear plan of how to achieve your career goals and you will have the confidence and skills to seek out your desired job. You will be able to achieve a score of 6.5 on the IELTS test and therefore have access to mainstream tertiary education. EDU-COL will also work with you for as long as necessary to meet your employment goals. Common career goals for our students include – office administration, retail, banking, accounts clerk, sales, Government jobs, Police force, and other tertiary courses.

You will be given a placement test before you start to make sure you are placed in a suitable class. Programmes are offered at our Mt Albert campus and/or our Waitakere campus in Henderson. You could choose an employment focused course to gain the special language skills you need, or take a general English course to improve your speaking and writing ability. Some courses even include direct work experience.
